HOW CAN I GET A MUSIC THERAPIST FOR MY SCHOOL?

Our music therapists can come into schools for one full school day, a half day or for one session for a specific child at your school. Music therapy sessions can take place in small group settings or 1:1 and take place on a regular, weekly basis. Sessions usually last between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on the age and concentration span of the child.

Much like accommodating a peripatetic music teacher, your school provides a private room consistently available each week, where the noise won't disturb others. For schools interested in a full or half day, we ask that the school gives the therapist access to a keyboarder piano and a selection of standard percussion instruments. Therapists coming to the school for a single session will often have their own instrumental kit. Sometimes our therapists run a lunchtime Singing Club or lunchtime drop-in clinic for children who want support just that day.

Contact our Head Music Therapist, Camilla, for costs of full days, half days and single sessions.

HOW IS MUSIC THERAPY FUNDED?

Many schools fund music therapy through the Pupil Premium allocation. Whereas funding for some children is applied for collaboratively with the child's family; these funds include the Adoption Support Fund and sometimes Local Authority Funding (when music therapy is listed on the child's EHCP). Other children's sessions are funded privately by the family; in these instances the school's role in setting up music therapy is purely practical - providing a private room and time within school hours.

Children I've referred to music therapy have progressed so much! For children who struggle expressing in words, music is the way in.

HOW IS PROGRESS ASSESSED?

A child's rate of progress in music therapy can differ significantly. Music therapists keep notes on each session they conduct in order keep track of changes week to week. Our team always communicate with the class teachers and schools SENCo to ensure everyone is aware of the child's progress and challenges. We also provide individual child reports on request, termly or at the end of a child's therapy. These reports can be used for Annual Reviews and as evidence for EHCP applications or similar.

We also provide schools with music therapy service evaluation reports on request. Click the document to read an example of our evaluation reports from one of our partner schools.
