HOW CAN MY CHILD RECEIVE MUSIC THERAPY?

Music therapy sessions can take place in small group settings or 1:1 and take place on a regular, weekly basis within school hours at your child's school. Sessions usually last between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on the age and concentration span of your child.

In the first instance, check that your child's school is prepared to provide a room to accommodate music therapy on a regular weekly basis. Your school SENCo is usually the first person to talk to. Also contact our Head Music Therapist, Camilla, for details of session costs. If you and your school are happy to go ahead, put us in touch to set up a suitable time and room for your child's music therapy session.

Check below to see if a music therapist is already working with your child's school.

Watch a video of a child in music therapy and find out more on our general music therapy page. Also check out our inclusive choir for children with autism and learning disabilities and our music workshop for parents.

Our daughter's confidence and communication has improved so much since she started music therapy. It's her favourite activity and constantly asks when she's next going to music!

We are so grateful for the support given to our son while processing all the traumatic changes in his life. He struggled with expressing anger but seems to have found a healthy way to express himself.

HOW IS MUSIC THERAPY FUNDED?

Music Therapy sessions are sometimes funded privately by the family. Or your child may be eligible for funding for therapies through the Adoption Support Fund or Local Authority Funding (when music therapy is listed on your child's EHCP). If your child is eligible for Free School Meals, some schools may be prepared to use your child's Pupil Premium funding to put towards music therapy. Although, it's best to ask your school SENCo, since this is not always possible depending on the school's circumstances.

My son really struggled to talk about anything except his immediate needs. I've noticed that he is much more open and communicative  on Tuesdays when he's been to music therapy.

HOW IS PROGRESS ASSESSED?

A child's rate of progress in music therapy can differ significantly. Music therapists keep notes on each session they conduct in order keep track of changes week to week. Our team always communicate with the class teachers and school SENCo to ensure everyone is aware of the child's progress. We also provide individual child reports on request, termly or at the end of a child's therapy. These reports can be used for Annual Reviews and as evidence for EHCP applications or similar.

WHICH SCHOOLS DO WE ALREADY WORK IN?

We work with many schools in Enfield and North London, sometimes for a full day of sessions, sometimes just to see one or two children. We are proud to collaborate with the following schools:
