RESOURCES FOR LEARNING PIANO

  • Sometimes the piano or keyboard can be overwhelming for children (especially those with autism) because there are so many notes and they make a big sound.
  • Xylophones or coloured bells are all scalic instruments similar to a piano that you give your child before they become interested in an actual piano/keyboard. Point out to your child that the notes are exactly the same as the piano, just without the black notes.

  • Joytunes offer three accessible apps for children to teach themselves the piano from scratch: Piano Dust Buster, Piano Maestro & Simply Piano.

  • We have created a coloured sticker system (much like our ukulele system) for learning to play tunes on the piano. It uses a combination of sheet music learning and simply following and matching coloured stickers.
  • The system can also be used with many sets of coloured bells and children's xylophones which use the same order of colours as the stickers shown in the picture.
  • We will be creating a Piano Songbook with lots of current pop songs as well as nursery rhymes using this system. We will upload it when it's ready.

  • Hello Music Theory offer simple, clear and well-made online resources for learning about music theory at all levels.
