SEN TRAINING FOR MUSIC TEACHERS
Peripatetic music teachers are highly trained instrumentalists, singers and educators, but often they have not had training in how to teach and engage children with Special Educational Needs (SEN). However, every teacher will come across a child with a condition such as autism, a learning disability, ADHD, dyslexia, an attachment disorder or physical disability. This training gives attendees a comprehensive overview of these conditions, how to spot it, how the child is likely to interact musically and musical and practical strategies for engaging with these children, supplemented by and video/audio examples. The training also includes question-answer time so that Camilla can advise on specific challenges the attendees have encountered.
This training is suitable for instrumental and vocal teachers working in 1:1 or group settings. The 2-hour training can be delivered by Camilla in person, or as a virtual training delivered on Zoom.
This training has been delivered as part of the CPD training for multiple Council Music Services, independent schools and music tuition organisations, including the Royal College of Music, Westminster School, The British School Kathmandu and the London Youth Conservatoire amongst others. If you would like to book Camilla to deliver this training for your organisation, get in contact directly via email. Trainings for anyone to book onto are offered twice yearly. See below for upcoming training dates.

That was a fantastic session for us in the music department! ... I wish I had that information during my teacher training years, especially with all the strategies to help as well! ... Overall, the session was so useful and informative, thank you. Camilla delivers this training for us every year and it's consistently informative and inspiring for our peri teachers. Full of info, ideas and practical suggestions. Highly recommended! Probably the most useful CPD training I've received to date. Camilla's comprehensive knowledge of so many conditions, and her tips on how to interact musically and personally, helped me adapt my working with children I'd really struggled to teach. “Learned lots about other learning difficulties and how music therapy can be used in a productive way towards these things. Also transferable skills for teaching!” |
